Exploring STEM Careers at Minneapolis STEM Expo
-Minneapolis, Nearly 2,000 Minneapolis students got the chance to explore careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) areas. Among all the countless possibilities is lies agriculture, after all agriculture is more than just farming.
AgCentric was there to showcase how technology plays a part in agriculture today and talk about the vast career possibilities within agriculture. At the AgCentric booth, students were able to: write with a 3D pen and take their handiwork home with them, visit a working farm via virtual reality, dissect a model cow and chicken to learn about animal science careers. AgCentric also partnered with Midwest Machinery a John Deere dealer to talk technical careers.
Since many of these students have never set foot on a farm and are four to five generations removed from the farm, this is a great opportunity for them to learn about the second largest industry in Minnesota and that is agriculture. While having a background in agriculture is beneficial most agriculture companies are having to hire employees that don’t come from a farm to fill positions.
